5 is so nice he did it twice

Sorry New York Ranger fans but Sunday prospect hockey was once again dominated by the New York Islander's trio of prospects playing for the Niagara IceDogs. Ryan Strome (NYI 2011 1st) until Saturday had never recorded a 5 point game in his OHL career.

After his Niagara IceDogs came from behind to defeat the Peterborough Petes 6-4; Strome now has 2 five point games on his resume. The game's 3rd star, Strome followed his 1-4-5 performance against Guelph with a identical 1-4-5 against the Petes and his was not even the best performance of the game as his linemate Brett Ritchie had a 5 goal game.

Might as well just head right to the highlights courtesy of the folks at TVCogecoOntario. Don't blink as there are 10 goals in this 3:58 clip including some nifty passing from Strome and Ritchie.



Really after watching the clip what more can you say about Strome's offensive skills? Funny how in October Strome was 5-10-15 in 12 games and in November, Strome is already 3-9-12 after just 3 games.

Strome for his game scored his 12th goal which also turned out to be the game winning goal (his 2nd), all 4 of his assists were primary assists setting up Brett Ritchie goals. Strome after Sunday's efforts is now the leading scorer in the OHL with a 12-21-33 mark.

Mitchell Theoret (NYI 2011 7th) followed his 5 point game with 2 secondary assists on 2 Ritchie goals. In 3 games in November, Theoret is 2-6-8 which doubled his season output from his first 12 games as Theoret is now 6-10-16.

Jesse Graham (NYI 2012 6th) didn't score but had another good game defensively. The IceDogs are on a 3 game winning streak that has them with the 2nd best record in the OHL's Eastern Conference.

As for Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) and his Peterborough Petes there really is not much anyone can say. The Petes had a 4-2 lead going into the final 10 minutes of the game but they ran into a buzz saw that was clicking and another loss for the Petes (3rd straight).

Anders Lee

In South Bend Indiana, Anders Lee (NYI 2009 6th) had 2 goals to earn the game's first star while Steven Fogarty (NYR 2011 3rd) had 1 goal (the game winner) to earn the 2nd star as their 8th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish shutout 11th ranked Western Michigan 4-0.

Courtesy of Notre Dame Athletics, here are the video highlights but they don't show Lee's first goal. Fogarty's goal was off a nice "give and go" was his 2nd game winning goal of the season.



Lee was pretty solid for the game in addition to the 2 goals which gives him a 5-4-9 for the season, was a +3 on 4 shots and was 8-12 on his face offs. Fogarty's goal besides being his 2nd game winner was also his 2nd power play goal as he was even on 4 shots and 3-3 on his faceoffs.

Robbie Russo (NYI 2011 4th) was moved over to right defense for this game and moved up to top pair defense. Russo was scoreless on a team high 6 shots and even.

Adam Pelech (NYI 2012 3rd) and his Erie Otters were beaten by the Mississauga Steelheads 4-1 in a game that was not as close as the score showed. The Steelheads taking advantage of a young and inexperienced team were able to escape the first period in a scoreless tie.

But in the second, the Steelheads scored 3 times to put the game for purposes out of reach for the Otters. The Steelheads held a 52-22 edge on shots on goal as they extended the Otter's winless streak to 5 games.

Pelech was scoreless and took a "checking to the head" minor late in the 3rd period.

Cody Rosen (NYI 2010 7th) was DNP as his Clarkson Golden Knights played to their 3rd straight tie, this time it was 2-2. Clarkson is now 0-4-3 on the season as they begin ECAC conference play next week.

The Guelph Storm are now 1-2 during the Andrey Pedan (NYI 2011 3rd) suspension after being shut out by the London Knights 3-0. One more game against Owen Sound and Pedan will be eligible to return to action.
