Tonight's Star Michael St. Croix Edmonton Oil Kings
Michael St. Croix (NYR 2011 4th) and his Edmonton Oil Kings dominated the Prince Albert Raiders in every area of the game except one; the scoreboard. Prince Albert made the most of their chances and came away with a 4-3 overtime win.
St. Croix and his teammates out shot the Raiders 50-22 but it was the Raiders who led for most of the game. In fact it wasn't until 19:46 of the 2nd period that the Oil Kings were able to get on the scoreboard and entering the 3rd period the Oil Kings trailed 3-1.
St. Croix got his first point of the evening (a secondary assist) on David Musil's goal at 9:39 to pull the Oil Kings to within 1 goal at 3-2. It was St. Croix who scored the tying goal of the game off a very nice move that beat Raider's goalie Luke Siemens to the stick side at 16:17 of the 3rd.
It was St. Croix's 13th of the season and improves St. Croix to 13-18-31 (8th in the WHL).

Griffin Reinhart (NYI 2012 1st) had a secondary assist on Edmonton's first goal of the game in their loss to Prince Albert. It was Reinhart's 6th assist of the year and his 8th overall point.
Ryan Strome (NYI 2011 1st) had 2 secondary assists as his Niagara IceDogs defeated the Ottawa 67's 4-2. Strome extended his scoring streak to 7 games (6-14-20) and extended his lead in the OHL's scoring race to 15-26-41.
Linemate Mitchell Theoret (NYI 2011 7th) set a new career high in points (9-13-22) when he recorded the primary assist on Steven Shipley's game tying goal. Theoret also has a 7 game scoring streak going at 5-9-14.
Defenseman Jesse Graham (NYI 2012 6th) was scoreless and it is a bit of concern now as Graham last season put up 41 points. Currently Graham only has 4 for the season.
In the battle of Islander defensive prospects, Adam Pelech (NYI 2012 3rd) and his Erie Otters defeated Andrey Pedan's (NYI 2011 3rd) Guelph Storm 3-2 via the shootout. Pelech recorded his 20th point of the season tying his career high and he can thank Pedan who took a penalty for kneeing that set up a 5 on 3 power play the Erie scored on.
Pedan recorded his 52nd PIM and on the power play Erie scored their 2nd goal of the game. This one cost his team points in the standings but until his coaches decide to address this then; Guelph gets what they deserve.
Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) and his Peterborough Petes dropped a 2-1 decision to the Mississauga Steelheads. Ceresnak was scoreless as the Petes have lost 9 of their last 10 games and are at the bottom of the OHL standings.
Samuel Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) and his Baie-Comeau Drakkar on the other hand are the hottest team in the entire CHL after defeating the Rimouski Oceanic 6-2. The Drakkar have a 14 game unbeaten streak after the win and the 3rd best record in the QMJHL.
Noreau was scoreless on 4 shots and a -1 and 1 hit for the game. The same two teams will play again on Sunday.
Brendan Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) saw his 6 game scoring streak end but his Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1. Kichton was 3-4-7 during the streak and is 8-16-24 overall.
Scott Mayfield (NYI 2011 2nd) had a secondary assist on what turned out to be the game winning goal as his 2nd ranked Denver Pioneers defeated rival 14th ranked Colorado 6-2. The win enabled Denver to sweep the 2 game series and improve to 9-1 on the season and 7-1 in the WCHA.
Mayfield is 1-4-5 on the season as the 2 teams behaved a tad better than they did on Friday evening.
Brady Skjei (NYR 2012 1st) and his 3rd ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated rival Wisconsin in game 2 of "the Border Battle." Skjei had another quiet night which again have to stress is not bad news for a freshman playing on an NCAA team with championship hopes.
And Cody Rosen (NYI 2010 7th) was back on the bench as his Clarkson Golden Knights won their 2nd game of the season 7-2 over Princeton. Clarkson is 2-5-4 on the season.
